Who we are
Service Leadership Academy is a Christ-centered homeschool co-op in Pleasant Grove, Utah. This policy explains what information we collect from member families, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to our public website and to the member portal at app.serviceleadershipacademy.org.
We are a small volunteer-run community organization. We are not in the business of advertising, and we do not sell information about our families to anyone.
Text messages (SMS)
We do not share or sell mobile information, phone numbers, or SMS opt-in consent to third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. No mobile information is shared with third parties except the messaging provider that delivers the messages on our behalf, and that provider may not use it for any other purpose.
Text messages are optional and off by default. A member turns them on themselves, inside their account, on the Settings page of the member portal. Two steps are required and neither is pre-selected: the member enters their own mobile number and confirms a one-time code we text to it, and then ticks a consent box. Until both are done, we send no messages.
Messages are transactional notices about co-op announcements, classes, and schedule changes, plus one-time verification codes. There is no marketing. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply.
To stop receiving texts, reply STOP to any message, or turn texts off on the Settings page. Either takes effect immediately. Reply HELP for help, or contact us at the address below. After you opt out, we will not text you again unless you opt in again yourself.
What we collect
We collect only what the co-op needs to run:
- Family and contact information — family name, parent and guardian names, email addresses, phone numbers, and mailing address.
- Student information — each child’s name and date of birth, and any allergies, medical notes, or care instructions a parent chooses to give us so we can keep their child safe.
- Membership and participation records — applications, enrollment, class registrations, attendance, volunteer and teaching commitments.
- Payment records — invoices, amounts, and payment status. Card numbers are handled entirely by Stripe, our payment processor, and never reach our servers.
- Photographs a family chooses to upload.
- Account and communication preferences — your sign-in credentials, stored only as a cryptographic hash, and your email and text message choices.
There is no public sign-up. Accounts are created by an administrator when a family’s application is accepted.
How we use it
To admit and enroll families, run classes, collect fees, keep children safe, and communicate with members about co-op business. That is the whole list. We do not use member information for advertising, and we do not build profiles for anyone else.
The member directory
The portal includes a directory so member families can reach one another. Each family controls what appears: full details, a limited listing showing only your family name and your children’s first names and ages, or no listing at all. You can change this at any time in the portal, and the choice is enforced by our servers rather than only hidden in the page.
The directory is visible only to signed-in members. It is not public.
Children’s information
We hold information about children because parents give it to us as part of membership, and we use it only to run the co-op and keep children safe. Children do not sign up themselves. Student accounts, where a family chooses to have them, are created by an administrator at the parent’s request, and a parent may ask us to review, correct, or remove their child’s information at any time.
Security and how long we keep things
Member information is kept in access-controlled systems. Traffic to our site and portal is encrypted, passwords are stored only as hashes, and access is limited to the administrators and officers who need it for their role.
We keep member records for as long as a family is part of the co-op and for a reasonable period afterwards for our own financial and historical records. If you would like your family’s information removed, contact us and we will tell you what we are able to delete and what we must keep.
No system is perfectly secure, and we will not pretend otherwise. If a breach ever affects member information, we will tell the families involved.
Your choices
- Turn text messages on or off yourself, at any time, in the portal.
- Reply STOP to any text message to opt out immediately.
- Choose how your family appears in the member directory, or not at all.
- Ask us what we hold about your family, and ask us to correct it. Write to the address below.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the effective date at the top of this page. If a change materially affects how we use member information, we will tell members directly.
